Jaw Shaping

Jaw shaping using botox can help reduce teeth grinding and can give a softer jawline.

Many patients come to our clinic with the complaint of naturally having a square or rectangular jawline, making the facial structure look “squarish” or round and adding the appearance of extra weight to the face.

Others suffer from a condition known as bruxism, which is easier described as “teeth grinding.” This condition causes the muscles of the masseter, which lies on the jawline of the face, to become very big and strong. The habitual chewing of hard foods and snacks can result in bulging muscle at the side of the jaw, making the jaw look large, square, or rectangular as a result.

WHAT DOES THE TREATMENT INVOLVE?

The treatment for jaw reshaping involves receiving a Botox injection on either side of the face, which weakens the muscle and makes it shrink over the following weeks.

The end result is a much softer jaw line, which helps to create an almond-shaped or “V-shaped” face. With just two simple injections, the facial structure will look much slimmer and more refined.

HOW DOES THE TREATMENT WORK?

The Botox is injected into the deep and superficial part of the masseter muscle (where the muscle inserts into the bone), it weakens and relaxes the muscle by blocking the nerve impulses directed to the area.

Weakening this muscle will not only prevent and treat teeth grinding, but also will give a feminine, heart-shaped jawline, which highlight the cheekbones. The face will look visibly slimmer and have more defined contours.

IS THE TREATMENT PAINFUL?

The treatment only involves two injections (one on either side of the face), and the needle that is used to inject is very fine. Most patients report that the feeling is similar to “tiny pinpricks.”

If the patient is anxious or nervous about the procedure, a topical numbing cream can be applied prior to injection to minimize any discomfort. However, the needle is so small and painless that this is not usually necessary.

This procedure is well suited for anyone who is self-conscious or unhappy with the shape of their jawline, especially those whose jawline is squared or rectangular in shape, or those who suffer with teeth grinding.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO SEE

RESULTS, HOW LONG DO THEY LAST?

Appearance wise, most patients see results in the first few weeks following the treatment. However, maximum effects will be seen around six weeks after the procedure is done. For patients receiving treatment for teeth grinding, results should be experienced within one to two weeks.

The results last between six and twelve months. Top-ups are recommended during this time period to maintain the desired result. Patients who receive this treatment every six months will notice over time that the treatment will begin to provide longer-lasting results, as the muscle will become smaller and weaker.
